openssl is vulnerable to Format String
37
Low Risk
CMP response checks convert the sender distinguished name and pass that string as the format argument to ERR_raise_data(). A sender name that contains percent specifiers is then formatted with no matching arguments, which reads or writes through unrelated stack values and crashes the client. This path runs when the client sets an expected sender or pins a server certificate. The fix passes the sender name as a data argument rather than as the format string.
You are affected if you are using a version that falls within the vulnerable range and your CMP client sets an expected sender or pins a server certificate.
openssl is vulnerable to Format String in versions 3.4.0 - 3.4.6, 3.5.0 - 3.5.7, 3.6.0 - 3.6.3 and 4.0.0 - 4.0.1.
