TL;DR

TJSONProtocol::readJSONString and readJSONNumericChars accumulate JSON string and numeric bytes without comparing the running length to the configured maximum message size. A peer can send one oversized token and force an unbounded allocation. The fix stops reading once the accumulated length exceeds getMaxMessageSize().

Who does this affect?

You are affected if you are using a version that falls within the vulnerable range and you deserialize Thrift JSON messages from an untrusted peer.

Background info

thrift is vulnerable to Denial of Service (DoS) in versions 0.2.0 - 0.24.0.

How to fix this

Upgrade the thrift library to the patch version.
