TL;DR

The NSEC handler does not distinguish a parent-side delegation NSEC from an authoritative child-side NSEC. A parent zone's signed NSEC at a zone cut is accepted as covering both a queried name and the synthesized wildcard, yielding a secure NXDOMAIN for names that exist in the child zone. Only genuinely signed parent records are required to mount the forgery. The fix rejects ancestor-delegation NSEC records as nonexistence proofs below the cut.

Who does this affect?

You are affected if you are using a version that falls within the vulnerable range and you have DNSSEC validation enabled
