TL;DR

The exrmetrics command-line tool's deep pixel-mode path sizes destination buffers incorrectly for crafted deep EXR inputs, so sample or pixel data is written past the end of the allocated heap buffer. Running exrmetrics on an untrusted deep EXR can therefore crash the tool or corrupt heap memory. The fix corrects deep pixel-mode buffer sizing before the copy runs.

Who does this affect?

You are affected if you are using a version that falls within the vulnerable range and you run the exrmetrics tool on untrusted deep EXR files.

Background info

AcademySoftwareFoundation.openexr is vulnerable to Heap-based Buffer Overflow in versions 3.3.0 - 3.3.12 and 3.4.0 - 3.4.13.

How to fix this

Upgrade the AcademySoftwareFoundation.openexr library to the patch version.
