hickory-net is vulnerable to Improper Verification of Cryptographic Signature
59
Medium Risk
The NSEC validator returns a secure proof for an NXDOMAIN response when the covering NSEC record's next domain name is a strict descendant of the query name, a shape that actually proves the name exists as an empty non-terminal. An on-path adversary can flip the unsigned rcode of a genuine signed NODATA response to NXDOMAIN while every RRSIG remains valid. The forged NXDOMAIN is then accepted as authenticated. The fix rejects this proof shape.
You are affected if you are using a version that falls within the vulnerable range and you have DNSSEC validation enabled
